22 October 2025

The days are getting shorter, wetter and colder. Maybe you love the autumn and winter months because of their coziness and the holidays, but for a lot of people the shorter days cause a mood shift. Familiar? For us it is! That's why we want to help you to get through those darker days with these four self care tips.
Walking
Even when it's getting colder it is still important to spend some time outside. So it doesn't matter if the sun is shining, or if it's cloudy, a walk is always a good idea. Spending time in nature is proven to be good for your mental health. Go hiking in a forest or blow off some steam at the beach. It reduces stress and gloominess and stimulates creativity! Put on your favorite podcast or music: hello happy hormones. And.. no one will judge you for the hot chocolate you got on your way ;).
Vitamins
There are some other advantages to walking outside. Did you know that 15 to 30 minutes per day are enough to get your skin to produce vitamin D? But, less sun also means less vitamin D. And because it is one of the vitamins that is important for your resistance to illness it can really help you during those darker days. Do you not get outside a lot during the day, or do you have doubts about possible vitamin deficiencies go to your general practitioner. It might be good for you to take some extra vitamins during the colder months.
Relaxation
Although winter is a cozy time with lots of fun obligations and surrounded by families during the holidays, it is also very hectic with little time to ourselves. That's why it is important, especially in such busy times, to really make some time to relax. Everyones might have a different idea of what relaxation looks like for them. Maybe you like to crawl up on the couch with a good book or a feel good movie. A quick face routine before bed can give you those 5 minutes of mindfulness. Or maybe you think baking or being creative is the most zen thing to do. It doesn't matter how you do it, as long as you don't forget to take care of yourself and plan in some chill time.
Spa-day
Talking about relaxation, treat yourself to a spa-day! Book a massage or go to the sauna for example. Also possible: create your own spa-like moment het home. Make sure you have the house to yourself for a couple hours or take some time after the kids are in bed. Take a bath or shower with our bath salt or shower foam. Give your skin some love by using a nourishing body oil after you're done. Time for an easy but effective face routine and look at that, you're glowing again!
Note: if you are struggling with feelings that go beyond a bad mood because of dark days, don't hesitate to contact your general practitioner and talk about it! No self care tip can take care of depressive feelings.
