lifestyle

It's time, autumn has really started. What that means? Nice and cozy moments with the whole family, watching movies under a blanket on the couch, game nights (or days) and all of this of course with a huge cup of hot chocolate. But it also means dark days with stormy weather, which might make it hard to find fun activities to do with the kids. No clue on how to entertain them during the bad weather? No worries, we got you.

Outdoor activities

1. Forrest adventure

Yes, it's raining. If you don't might getting dirty take your kids into the woods. Raincoat and rubberboots on and you're ready to go. Jump in the puddles, brew a magic potion or look for a playground. Try to find leaves, mushrooms and other autumn essentials to take home for some arts and crafts.

Tip: turn it into a scavenger hunt with the help of the bingo card below. You can also easily make one your own when you want to do it indoors.

Take a nice warm shower after you come home all wet and muddy and then it's time for a hot chocolate. A day full of fun guaranteed!

2. Getting cultural in a museum

There is no better place to learn more about culture than in a museum. And.. it's the perfect place to visit during rainy days. Lots of museums have exhibitions that are focused on (little) children. Our favorites: het Kinderboekenmuseum in Den Haag (Children's books museum) and Het Scheepvaartmuseum in Amsterdam (Maritime museum).

3. Jumping, climbing and playing at an indoor playground or trampoline park.

Need to get some excess energy out? Go to an indoor playground like Monkey Town where kids can run around and be their crazy selfs. Also fun: indoor trampoline parks, for example this one in Rotterdam or this one in Den Haag. Getting rid of all that built op energy. When your kids are a little older it is also really fun to take them to a climbing hall, which you can find in almost every city. It helps with building up their confidence and keeps them active when playing outside is not an option. Makes them sleep better at night ;).

Indoor activities

1. Beautiful bakings

Not only fun to do, but also to eat: bake cakes and cookies together. Mixing the batter will make for a great mess in the kitchen, but cleaning together is part of the deal too. After the oven has done it's job it is time for decorating. And then the best part: eating your creations!

In need of recipes? No worries. You can find a ton of kid-friendly recipes here.

2. Creative crafts

Arts and crafts are fun! It can built up your kids' confidence and stimulates creativity. When the weather it gloomy crafts are always a good idea. And guess what, autumn is a great theme to work with! Remember those fall leaves you collected during your forrest adventure? Take them home, dry them between the pages of a big fat book and make a autumn inspired collage. The internet is full of ideas, so you won't have to get bored at all. Look at these 50 easy fall crafts and get inspired.

3. Fort readingparty

Collect all pillows and blankets you can find in the house and build a fort in the livingroom. You can even add mattresses and make it into a sleep over party! One you've settled into the fort you can watch a movie with autumn vibes or you can read (each other) adventurous stories.

Did you know reading (and being read to) is very beneficial for children? It teaches them new words and usually stories come with a great lesson to learn. And the best part: it's the ultimate autumn and winter activity (although we might be biased ;)).

Anyway, what we are trying to tell you: even in autumn there is no need to get bored!
