5 fun activities to do with kids this Christmas holiday!
20 December 2024
Looking forward to the holidays after the annual Christmas dinner or Christmas breakfast at school? You might already have some things planned, but maybe you're still in need of some good tips. Because let's face it, coming up with two weeks of activities that the kids will enjoy can be quite tricky. We're here to help! Naïf tips: 5 fun activities for the Christmas holidays.
All the pieces come together
Puzzles: who didn't grown up with them? Pick a large puzzle with lots of pieces and designate a puzzle table or mat. You'll keep yourself and the kids busy, and have a nice goal: finishing it before the holidays are over! There’s plenty of choice, and you can find puzzles at any price. Be sure to look at puzzles at the charity shop as well!
Gnome Trails
Did you know that gnomes hide in the woods? During one of the Kabouterpaden (Gnome Trails) by Staatsbosbeheer, your little one (perfect for kids between about 3 and 7 years old) can go on a treasure hunt with a red gnome hat and backpack. They’ll follow gnome tracks and complete tasks, and at the end, they’ll even receive a gnome diploma! You can find locations, recommended ages, and costs on the Staatsbosbeheer website.
Time off
Looking for a calm activity? Play a nice audiobook for children and set up some craft supplies on a table. While they listen to the story, they can craft away too. You can enjoy the peace too, which is a big win during the holidays - we know ;). You’ll find audiobook suggestions for all ages and interests at the Jeugdbibliotheek and on Storytel.
'Tis the season
No season is better for baking with the kids than December. Oliebollen, Christmas cookies, chocolates, or other (maybe healthier) treats—there’s plenty of choice in the month of December. Baking together is also nice for any age; for little ones, you can prepare everything in advance, but older kids can help measure ingredients or shopping for supplies. Take your time so you it's a relaxing experience and still have time to clean up the mess together.
Cozy time!
Encourage imagination and fantasy in your kids with a fort building day. Pillows, sheets, stools, and cardboard boxes: your kids can use anything to create a beautiful fort. Make it even cozier by decorating it together, perhaps with lights or garlands. Afterwards you can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate while reading a book, watching a movie, or telling stories. Fun memories guaranteed!
