A baby’s skin is 40% to 60% thinner than the skin of an adult (Source: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0733863505702448). As you can imagine, this makes it much more sensitive to irritation and contact allergies. A contact allergy is caused by repeated exposure to an irritant, such as those found in certain shower products or wipes.

What does it mean to be AllergyCertified? 

Contact allergies are most often caused by metals (15.5%), preservatives (6.2%), perfume (4.5%), and colorants (1%) added to products (Source: AllergyCertified). However, there are milder alternatives that significantly reduce these risks. AllergyCertified carefully reviews formulations to identify allergens and other harmful ingredients that can irritate the skin or lead to other known or suspected health issues.

Is perfume bad for you?

Perfume can be a complicated subject. Did you know that in Europe, people in the Netherlands come into contact with perfume most frequently? While a baby doesn’t need perfume, especially in products like wipes or zinc cream, many parents enjoy a nice scent in their baby’s bath. That’s why we leave the choice to you, offering both perfumed and 0% perfume options.

It is important to note that the perfume we use at Naïf is mild and made with the sensitive baby skin in mind. Beyond this, we are constantly improving our fragrance to make it even milder for the most sensitive skin.
