Kids, work, your relationship, social obligations. Sounds familiar? It can be a lot as a busy parent. Sometimes it's really easy to forget yourself in the chaos of parenthood. Don't! We're here to tell you that a happy parent is the most fun parent. Which means you need to invest in some time for yourself. How you do that with such a busy schedule? We're here to give you some tips!

Making time for yourself doesn’t have to take hours. A simple self-care routine, half an hour for your passions, or just a day without obligations can be enough to recharge from the constant go-go-go mentality. We've listed some tips based on how much time you have available. Ready?

Up to 15 Minutes

Fifteen minutes might sound short, but taking even just 15 minutes a day to consciously relax can truly make a difference. There are countless things you can do in a quarter of an hour (not all at once, of course), and we’re pretty sure that this fits into anyone’s busy schedule.

Relax in the shower

Yep, it has to happen anyway. But take a little longer than usual for a change (not the most eco-friendly tip, but hey, sometimes it’s worth it). Give your hair a thorough wash, use a nice face wash, maybe even exfoliate a bit, and rinse off with a relaxing shower foaml. You’ll feel like a brand-new person afterward!

Everthing for a relaxing shower

A simple skincare routine

We believe skincare should be simple. You don’t need a shelf full of products to have healthy, glowing skin. Because let’s be real, what parent has time for a 20-step routine? And then waiting for everything to absorb... No thanks. With a good face wash, a mild scrub once or twice a week, and a day and night cream suitable for all skin types, you’re ready to go in less than 15 minutes. Finish it off by moisturizing your body with an oil or cream, and you're ready to shine.

Everything for the perfect glow

Food is good

One of the ultimate forms of self-care is eating healthy and nourishing food. You're always busy feeding your kids, but don’t forget to feed yourself! Take a moment each day to eat something nice for you and really enjoy it. And yes, sometimes that might mean a not-so-healthy but oh-so-good piece of chocolate (when the kids aren’t watching, of course).

Short meditation

Take time to check in with yourself and intentionally relax. In just 15 minutes, you can meditate or practice mindfulness. It’s a great way to start your day calmly or wind down before bed. There are plenty of short meditations online, so find one that suits you and just breathe.

Dance party

Blast your favorite tunes like it’s a 90s club night and dance your stress away. Not much more to say about it. Just do it.

15 Minutes to 1 Hour

Got a bit more time? Maybe even a full hour to yourself? It’s tempting to scroll through your phone on the couch, but do you really feel better afterward? Probably not. Instead, here are some ideas to recharge your battery for real.

Work up a sweat

Nope, not cleaning the house! It can wait. Go exercise! Working out releases happy hormones, instantly boosting your mood (okay, maybe not instantly). You'll feel accomplished knowing you worked on your own health. No need for a gym either. there are tons of free online workouts. Or go for a walk or bike ride. Pop on an audiobook or podcast and off you go. Doesn’t really matter what you do—even dancing around the house counts—as long as you get your body moving in a positive way.

Baking or cooking

If you enjoy baking or cooking, it’s a great way to relax. And the result? Delicious too. Find a recipe that takes no more than an hour and get cooking!

Grab a book

Ah yes, reading. Remember the last time you sat down with a good book? If not, then it's definitely time to change that. Reading is incredibly relaxing. Don’t have the energy? Pop on an audiobook and listen while you lie back. The hardest part? Putting that book down afterwards when the story gets really good.

Hobby time

An hour is plenty of time for a hobby. Whether it’s puzzling, playing a game, knitting, journaling—whatever floats your boat. There’s lots you can do in an hour.

Take a nap

There, we said it. Got an hour? Take a nap! The ultimate form of self-care for parents is catching up on some much needed sleep. Just don’t sleep too long or you’ll end up with a nap hangover.

More Than an Hour

Kids out of the house and more than an hour to yourself? Take full advantage! The more time you have, the bigger the possibilities, so think big!

Go to the movies

Watching a movie at home is fun and all, but sometimes you just need to get out. Head to the cinema. Yes, even by yourself. You really don’t need company during a movie. Treat yourself to some snacks and enjoy some undisturbed movie time!

Spa day!

Book a massage, go to the hairdresser, or get your nails done. You deserve it! You can go to a salon, or go all-in at home. And we mean ALL IN: a nice long shower or bath (with magnesium bath salt for ultimate relaxation!), full-body scrub, face mask, paint your nails. You’ll feel like a brand new person.

Everything for an at home spa-day

Hit the town, lunch included

Retail therapy? Yes, please! Of course, just buy what you actually need or just go window shopping. Roam the streets, grab a coffee, and finish with a relaxed lunch on a sunny terrace. No kids, just you.

Culture and art

Museum visits are always fun. And this time, it doesn’t have to be kids themed. You get to pick a museum that you enjoy. Wander through the art and culture at your own pace, in peace.

A Full Day or More

Got the whole day to yourself or maybe even a night? Well… what’s stopping you? You can basically do everything on the list and book a hotel stay. Get a luxury room with a (bubble) bath and maybe even a sauna. Sleep in like you haven’t in years. Great to do with your partner, but also amazing on your own! Explore a new city or stay close to home. Go as big or small as you like.

One Last Tip

Struggling to find time for yourself? It’s easier said than done, we know. But it’s important to also take some time to recharge, especially when you’re taking care of others all day. When you feel like the chaos is taking over, hit the pause button. Say no to more obligations (yes, you can skip that birthday party), ask family and friends for help and to take over a few things, and know that household chores can wait another day. It’s not easy, but it’s absolutely worth it to sometimes just choose you.
